To make sure that we would take and not be plundered, all of our members, men and women, fought with swords. When we first started black powder weapons were few and far between. We would use look alikes that didnt fire. There were on going plots of mystery and assassinations. We played highly in intrigue.
But as time went on the intrigue stopped playing well to the audience so we changed. Now we play with a story line that we all follow, but our gigs are a full story in themselves. Examples of this are mutinies, gambling, and brawls. We also began to aquire more and more people with black powder weapons. Improv became more prominent. Our characters interact with each other and members of other groups and the public as we walk in the streets or sit in the encampments.
We are also building on songs. Most songs of the time came from the sea. Sea shanties were composed and sung by those who work on ships. So we try to find time fore song during the day.
The group has come along way from bed sheet shades as an encampment to a well-established group with a strong core of 23 members. We continue to grow in numbers and talent. We enjoy, love, recreating the Elizabethan era for the customers who come to see us perform.
